He Koreo mo te Pingao

After the sky father and the earth mother were separated, Tawhirimatea was so angry and he decided to live in the sky with his father. Tawhirimatea told his children to go do battle with them,pouring tons of rain on Tangaroa. The waves were going wild on the land. Tangaroa was constantly at war with his brother Tane, Later on,Tangaroa children would be frightened on shore. They kept on arguing about finding a safer place for Tangaroa's children to live. So the lizards,tuatara and the insects separated and lived with Tane. The hapuka,the tamure,the tarakihi and all the other kinds of fish lived with Tangaroa in the sea.The fight still continued. That day Tane was getting tired of this battle.So he got some pingao and put it in the water but Tangaroa did not forgive he threw it back on the shore.Pingoa means peace and kind of like forgiveness.
